Purchase Help

Hello, i'm currently trying to purchase a good quality gaming computer. I'm hoping this computer can play games at max to high settings for a good year or two. I started with the Nvidia 600$ gaming computer build at Cyberpower, ( http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Xtreme_1000/ ) and have upgraded it a bit, My budget is around 800. Can't go to much higher then that with taxes.

Here is the build,

Case: * Raidmax Blade Mid-Tower Gaming Case w/ Side-Panel Window
Extra Case Fan Upgrade: Maximum 120MM Case Cooling Fans for your selected case
CPU: Intel Core? i5-2500 3.30 GHz 6M Intel Smart Cache LGA1155
Venom Boost Fast And Efficient Factory Overclocking: No Overclocking
Cooling Fan: XtremeGear Liquid Cooling System 120MM Radiator & Fan (Enhanced Cooling Performance + Extreme Silent at 20dBA) (Dual Standard 120MM Fans (Push-Pull) [+9])
Motherboard: MSI H61M-P23 Intel H61 Chipset DDR3 mATX Mainboard w/ 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, SATA-II, 1 Gen2 PCIe & 3 PCIe X1 [B3 Stepping]
Memory: 4GB (2GBx2) DDR3/1333MHz Dual Channel Memory (Corsair or Major Brand)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB 16X PCIe Video Card (Major Brand Powered by NVIDIA)
Multiple Video Card Settings: Non-SLI/Non-CrossFireX Mode Supports Multiple Monitors
Power Supply Upgrade: 700 Watts - XtremeGear SLI/CrossFireX Ready Power Supply
Hard Drive: 1TB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Hard Drive)
Optical Drive: 24X Double Layer Dual Format DVD+-R/+-RW + CD-R/RW Drive (BLACK COLOR)
Sound: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO

Now this build is around 850 atm, and i cant go much higher, i also had a few questions,

Hows the graphics card?

I upgraded from a 550Ti due to many people saying the 460 was better, so its either NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 1GB 16X PCIe Video Card which is about 80bux cheaper or keep NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB 16X PCIe Video Card. If it aint worth it, it would be nice to go with the 460. Also, should i pay for the extra over clocking? It would raise the price quite a bit to over clock to 10% or more, is it worth it? Does it lower the life time overall of the computer? Anything else is greatly appreciated, but please keep in mind my budget and that i have no experience building a computer in any way, so it is very much out of the question to build my own.

Also, thier is a option for EVGA Superclocked on the 560 for 18 dollars more, what does it mean and is it worth it?

Also, the 460 has this upgrade, -Palit Sonic Platinum 800MHz Core Powered by NVIDIA, for 20 dollars more, what does it mean?

Thank you.

As for over clocking.
Unless you know what your doing......don't go there.

anyone got any ideas

HP, Dell and others order systems. The spec will call out what it needs and if there is some extra port or such, they take it and don't offer it in the documentation or support it.

Who said this port works?

So how to get support
?

Reply 3 : my motherboard says theres no pcie slot but i see 1 clearly

I can't find the make and model so I can only comment about a common thing you find. If some maker documented this model to have 0 PCIE slots and you found one, then you should be able to figure out that it's use is not guaranteed or supported.

Then again you find folk that demand support for such. Go figure.

"3 PCI slots (2 available), 1 PCI-E x16 slot (available)"

If there are extra and they work, count your self lucky!

Some people need to be shaken,I SAID THREE AVAILABE PCI SLOTS And 1 PCIE x16,PCIE x16 is no driven.

Reply 8 : my motherboard says theres no pcie slot but i see 1 clearly

You write "my motherboard says theres no pcie slot but i see 1"

Later you reveal the model number so I go and get what HP writes about that model. You seem upset about that but I'll try again if you will.

Now that we know there should be a slot and it is supported can you explain what you mean by "my motherboard says theres no pcie slot"?

For example some folk will run software such as "What's in my PC.com" and it won't find stuff. That's not a good test software in my book so let's hear why you think the motherboard is reporting no such slot.

I want to upgrade my video to HD, purchased a decent graphics card and followed the instruction to the letter. computer wont boot, removed card, checked bios no selectable pcie on list, only pci or onboard avalable

Graphics card is diamond hd5450

Ant help you can offer IS appreciated greatly
I also upgraded the power supply for the card

Reply 10 : my motherboard says theres no pcie slot but i see 1 clearly

bios does not list pcie in graphics selections only onboard or pci

Reply 11 : my motherboard says theres no pcie slot but i see 1 clearly

Most BIOS's do that. Not much that I can add here. Maybe you wanted a BIOS to change which is the primary display but for most machines onboard is .. onboard and the other selection is the other card no matter if it's PCI, PCIe, AGP or another.

Hope this helps. And no, I see no signs that BIOS writers will ever get this right.

No helpful information at all from you but IF I ever need a snide remark,I know who to call

Reply 16 : my motherboard says theres no pcie slot but i see 1 clearly

When you find folk that claim Bill Gates supplies them with Windows or has any influence on the Windows products today you have to ask more questions.

Here's one. Who's running the show now?
Bob

I wonder if you are willing to discuss issues or were expecting tech support?

These are discussion forums with no paid staff. I've tried to figure out the issue you were seeing but you seem to be upset at the slightest attempt at humor.

What's up with that?

Custom Built Computer Issues. Help?

I just ordered a bunch of parts from TigerDirect and they arrived in good order. They are as follows:

2x2 sticks of Patriot Sector5 Ram (4 Gigs in total DDR3) Running dual channel with two slots open. PC3-12800 MHZ
The motherboard is Biostar A770E3 AM2+ Compatible.

Processor is AMD 6-Core 2.86 GHZ Phenom II. (1055T)
Video Card is a GeForce GT 430 (1024 MB of DDR3 RAM.)
1 Terabyte Sata-II 7200 RPM Hard drive.
(Old IDE DVD drive as temp-Ordering new one soon)

So, the problem is: On boot up it won't boot from any discs or usb drives. I haven't installed anything to this computer, I've never built a computer from scratch, but I have put them together hundreds of times before.
The only thing that the computer displays after boot is this "Hardware Monitor" It tells me the specs of the system.
Anything that might help is appreciated. And if I find the answer, I'll be sure to post it.

eww biostar, anyway have u gone into bios and set the boot order , recheck all the cables / power n data connected ?
Is your cd drive IDE ? Is it cbl select or set as master or slave ?
Usually set the cd as master alone with 1 hdd sata connected.
Or if hdd and cd are IDE , use the same cable with hdd as master and cd as slave.

Reply 2 : Custom Built Computer Issues. Help?

I've checked and rechecked each of the cables in the computer. Yes, I've gone into the bios and changed the boot order, I've also pressed F9 and selected which device to boot from.

The drives are set properly~I'm not really a novice at this. I've actually never asked a forum for help before.

Reply 3 : Custom Built Computer Issues. Help?

Your sure the cd IDE is master by itself on end of chain ? Some cdroms only like cbl select with some mbs.
Did u enable sata in bios too ?

Reply 4 : Custom Built Computer Issues. Help?

The IDE cable is definitely a master, with the end of the cable used.
The hard drive isn't the problem, as I've never installed anything onto it before. In order to install something on it~I need a disc drive that reads discs. Right?

I've tried a USB memory stick and it didn't boot either. I've got someone to lend me a Sata DVD burner. As the motherboard is naturally SATA-II anyway.
Thinking on it, I've come to the conclusion that it must be the ancient technology that the motherboard simply doesn't recognize without the drivers.

If there is anything in between that might help~
Like, I haven't installed the BIOS drivers yet, because it can't read the discs to get the drivers.

Reply 5 : Custom Built Computer Issues. Help?

Don't think your wanting to solve your problem.
As I already asked .....
Is the jumper on CDROM set to master? Maybe "cable select " if not noticed when on master.
Did u enable sata in the bios.

Bring it here I'll fix it or tell u what broke in 10 minutes !!

Now your forcing my hand lol
I have to ask what this exactly means
"I've never built a computer from scratch, but I have put them together hundreds of times before."

Reply 6 : Custom Built Computer Issues. Help?

Uh, I believe that the motherboard is SATA-II and therefore as I've said, the SATA ports work just fine :P
I think you wouldn't be able to fix it in ten minutes xD
Yes, again, I said the CD drive is set to master.

As well
It means, I've taken apart and rebuilt already built computers hundreds of times. But I've never purchased a mobo and all the parts and put them together and installed everything.

I think you're starting to sound arrogant.
It's not appreciated.

Reply 7 : Custom Built Computer Issues. Help?

But youve missed what I suggested,
Try this ....
Make sure you remove the power cord from the back first.
Unplug all hdd and CDROM
Unscrew the CDROM and take it out, now check where it says the lil jumper should b to make it master.
Now put the CDROM back in and make sure it's on the end of the IDE cable.
Now see if u can boot the cd, if not, remove the CDROM again and put the lil jumper on cable select.
Put it back in and see if u can boot.
If the it does boot either as master or cbl select then try another IDE cable and/or CDROM

If you get the CDROM working reconnect the hdd , go into the bios and find where it enables sata and make sure it's enabled.

If neither the Ide or the sata don't work I would think bad mobo or maybe although less likely the psu or try switching ram
I would also check the temperatures inside the bios
Last hope reseat the CPU

Computers eh

Reply 8 : Custom Built Computer Issues. Help?

I wanna know what beeps it makes.

Reply 9 : Custom Built Computer Issues. Help?

If this your mobo and it may not be updated
http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/memory_report.php?S_ID=450
That ram is not on the qvl list.

I NEED 2 know what's wrong here

Reply 10 : Custom Built Computer Issues. Help?

It doesn't make any beeps.
I know that the mobo isn't updated~No discs or memory sticks work on this computer.

All In One Pc ...or not?

I'm looking for a new Pc - Where to start??? regular desktop or the new all in one's. Also, Dell or HP? I'm using Dell desktop Dimension 4300 Win XP 1.6 Gig.processor for almost 10 years now. All I ever did was format the hard drive 4 times and upgrade the memory and hard drive. I was told Dell isn't what it use to be. Any opinions would help. I'm not interested in notebooks or laptops...I hear they don't have the life expectancy, and can be an ongoing expense with the fan and battery. I will start first with energy star ratings. I'm only seeing Energy Star ratings on the All In-Ones.

Reply 1 : All In One Pc ...or not?

These will continue to be offered and for the price I wonder if it's time for a laptop. As to Dell, no company is what it used to be. That is, service is not included.

Serious and Anoying Problem

Hi The problem is the following. I had a motherboard m2n68-cm, it broke and the pc shop gave me a M3N78-EH. Today I received it and have some serious problems with it and i want to know whats the problem because i cant tell. I had no problems at all with the M2N. The games and Windows 7 are lagging in waves. these waves are lowering fps and intrerrupting audio .Crysis 2 for example.Every wave is lagging the game for like 7 seconds.its like 10 playable,7 not playable. Its very stressful. The temperatures are ok both GPU and CPU.Mayble the processor is not fitting well...dunno...
Heres the system:
__ASus M3n78-EH
__Ati RAdeon 4770 512 GDDR5 Pci Express x16 2.0
__4 gb Kingston Hyper-X
__AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ Brisbane 3.1 Ghz
I repeat the problem did not occure on the m2n68-cm Mobo

PS : BIos is up to date, temps are ok...whats the problem?

Thanks

Reply 1 : Serious and Anoying Problem

When we change motherboards, Windows rarely runs right if the install was from the other board.

Add that installing Windows is far from simple enough yet with drivers that may be out of date with the CD that came with the board.

Here's what I missed in your post -> Is this is the old Windows install?
Bob

Reply 2 : Serious and Anoying Problem

Nope, this windows was installed when i recieved it.so its with the actual hardware.

Reply 3 : Serious and Anoying Problem

btw ,how do i reply in the same thread?

Reply 4 : Serious and Anoying Problem

Ok, so Windows was installed but I'm finding most to not install motherboard and all the lovely drivers. If you feel you did the install proper you have a WARRANTY issue to deal with.

It is possible you tripped over yet another toxic combo of software but I can't know this as there is so little detail in the discussion.
Bob

Reply 5 : Serious and Anoying Problem

i think it aint good at all http://img852.imageshack.us/i/hdtuneg.jpg/

Reply 6 : Serious and Anoying Problem

I looked at that screen and see no reason to keep that drive.

Reply 7 : Serious and Anoying Problem

i guess this is the problem with frames and all the freezing problems?

Reply 8 : Serious and Anoying Problem

It certainly doesn't help. And you can't be sure of this till you swap it out but a seller would be in their rights to not swap out a system if that drive was found to be there.
Bob

Reply 9 : Serious and Anoying Problem

Well as i said i checked with an external hard drive and the old on still atached and the same problems happen...

I mean the,the windows is on the old one....and i played the game on the external one...does that make any difference?(should it?).

Should i try to replace the internal one with another internal and try again?

All i want to say...is the HD the problem thats causing this?

Reply 10 : Serious and Anoying Problem

I think it is time to replace the motherboard.

Reply 11 : Serious and Anoying Problem

You seem to be in a state of denial. You are attempting to justify that a bad HDD is not the cause and we know the test for figuring out if it is.

Since we know that such a drive can cause issues, it is up to you to figure out if you want to tackle the issues or try to change motherboards and hope.

I need help!!!

your system has, we're at a real disdvantage.

That said having enough RAM and a decent GPU are usually key ingredients for a decent gaming PC.

tools to monitor web forums

Hello,

I am interested in tools which allows me to monitor discussion on various web forums about products I am offering with my busines.

Can anyone recommend something, maybe even a free tool
I am interested in any kind of tools.

Thanks for this

Reply 1 : tools to monitor web forums

I believe you may be looking at some type of RSS Feeds.

I can't speak for forums hosted elsewhere, but CNET has an RSS option for each of it's forums, and these feeds can be added to any web site.

There is more about CNET RSS Feeds here;

Hey Mark,

thanks for your comment but I don't think this is something I am looking for. It's like focussed web crawler...

Reply 3 : tools to monitor web forums

So I will have to pass.

I did find this;
http://www2008.org/papers/pdf/p447-caiA.pdf

It's a PDF from a Chinese study, (the PDF is in English), about "iRobot: An Intelligent Crawler for Web Forums".

I didn't read it all, in fact I didn't even start, but the Google link I saw to this suggested web crawlers for forums were problematical. May be that is reflected in the PDF.

Good luck with your search.
